Wild Koala Day 2022

“What are we going to do for Wild Koala Day this year?”  "I know", said QKC President, Linda,  “Lets have a Wild Koala Day benefit concert."  And so the idea was born.

Performers, live music, fun for the kids, food, craft beer, all for the benefit of our endangered koalas. What could possibly go wrong?

We are very fortunate to have several of our members as very talented musicians who very willingly agreed to be featured at our event and so with the help of Danny from DansLand Music who took on the task of organising the musical talent and liaising with the venue, The Wild Koala Day Festival started coming together with Thirsty Chiefs Brewing in North Lakes, booked for May 7.

The timeline was tight, but we reckoned we had it covered, then the weather forecast started to look less than appealing.  With two days to go, the forecast changed to a high probability of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon of May 7.  What could possibly go wrong, was staring down at us.

Regrettably, we elected to postpone the event for two weeks with the new date of May 21, locked in.  Tickets were refunded for those who were not able to make the revised date, but the extra 2 weeks gave us more time to sell tickets and to really crank up our online raffle ticket sales.

Under gloomy skies and the threat of rain (it was bucketing down in the morning) the QKC Wild Koala Day Festival went ahead with local band Vegas Rayz as our headline act. What a great success it turned out to be.

Very special thanks must go to Councillors Cath Tonks, Mark Booth, Sandra Ruck and Jodie Shipway from Moreton Bay Regional Council who supported our request for a community grant to help with our efforts. Thanks also to North Lakes Signs who continue to provide us with sponsorship.

So, in spite of the weather, our Wild Koala Day Festival helped us bring in some new members and raise money for our ongoing efforts to give koalas what they need most, a stable and secure home in the trees.

Thanks to Danny from DansLand Music; Thirsty Chiefs Brewing; Paul Worthington Photography; QKC Members and performers Dave Norman and Jade Clark; Rojo y Blanco for great food; Julia Baker, the Snake Sheila for an entertaining and educational reptile show; Debra the Incredabubbles lady who kept going for the kids in spite of the rain; Damian Castellini for his amazing artwork; and a host of QKC volunteers who kept things running on the day and of course, all the performers who put their talents on display.

Thanks also to our raffle prize donors, Australia Zoo, Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, Trevor Proud Creations, Passage Migration Consulting, Ocean View Estates, and Peppers Noosa Resort & Villas.
