He arrived weighing just 220 grams. Now he needs a name ā and a whole lot of love.
On 7 June, this tiny little koala arrived at Magnetic Island Koala Hospital with his mum.
He weighed just 220 grams.
Sadly, his mum was very sick with melioidosis and was struggling to breathe. The carers couldnāt believe she was still alive ā but they suspected she may have been hanging on for her baby.
Heartbreakingly, she couldnāt be saved and had to be euthanised.
And suddenly, this tiny little boy was on his own.
A tiny fighter
Getting him to take milk hasnāt been easy. Heās been a little tricky when it comes to feeding, although he took to pap quite nicely.
And ever since he arrived, heās been nibbling away at least.
More recently, heās started doing little zoomies around his crate after a milk feed! š„°
Weāre calling that a very welcome little sugar rush.
But despite these encouraging signs, this little guy still has a long road ahead.
Heās requiring bucket loads of TLC, specialist care and plenty of patience as he grows stronger.
He needs a name!
For now, weāre calling him:
Our Nameless Little Legend
But we donāt think this little survivor should stay nameless for long!
When you Foster a Koala, youāll have the opportunity to suggest a name for him.
Weāll collect your suggestions and choose the top five.
Then weāll put those five names to a poll of Queensland Koala Crusaders supporters, who will help choose his final name.
