We’re thrilled to kick off 2026 with not one, but two very special joeys in our Foster a Koala program — meet Caramello and Hazel, the most adorable duo you'll ever meet 💚

Caramello’s Story

In May last year, little Caramello was found alone after being abandoned by his mumma. Seeking comfort and safety, he climbed the first “tree” he could find — a child’s leg at the property where he was discovered. While the exact reason for his abandonment is unknown, it’s suspected his mumma may have been unwell.

At just 320 grams, Caramello was dehydrated, in shock, and extremely vulnerable. Thanks to Kiara’s expertise and dedication, he has made a remarkable recovery and is now thriving, proudly enjoying his big boy status in the joeys’ crèche.

Hazel’s Story

Hazel’s journey began with heartbreak. In July, she was found inside her deceased mum’s pouch after they were tragically struck by a car. Hazel was only six months old, weighing just 300 grams, and had suffered internal bleeding, lung contusions, extensive bruising, and grazes to all four paws.

Through countless hours of TLC and Kiara’s unwavering commitment, Hazel has healed beautifully and is now flourishing alongside her joey mates. She’s even developed a sweet bond with Caramello and is reportedly quite fond of giving him kisses 💕

A Sweet Ending (and Hopeful Beginning!)

Caramello and Hazel are named after Cadbury chocolates, in the hopeful dream that Cadbury might one day donate to help support their ongoing care.
