Duncan is our June–July Foster a Koala Champion — a resilient little joey whose journey is a powerful reminder of why every rescued koala deserves a second chance.

Duncan’s story began with heartbreak.

He was found clinging to his mother after she had tragically died from unknown causes. At just 865 grams, Duncan was far too young to survive on his own in the wild.

When rescuers brought him into care, there were no obvious signs of illness, but further testing revealed he was infected with Chlamydia — one of the biggest threats facing wild koalas today. Duncan underwent treatment and, thanks to expert veterinary care and dedicated wildlife carers, he responded remarkably well.

Since then, Duncan has continued to grow stronger every day.

From a vulnerable orphan fighting to survive, he has developed into a healthy, curious young koala with a bright future ahead of him. He spends his days eating, sleeping, climbing, and building the skills he’ll need for life back in the wild.

But Duncan’s journey isn’t over yet.

Every orphaned koala requires months of specialised care, nutritious eucalyptus leaves, veterinary treatment, medication, health monitoring, and the support of experienced wildlife carers before they can be safely released.
