Meet Bear Grills – A True Survivor!
Bear Grills is one incredibly lucky koala. Hit by a car in an 80km/h zone near Mundoolun, he ended up lodged in the car’s front grill—earning his name and surviving against the odds.
This brave boy, estimated to be between 3–4 years old, suffered a right femoral fracture. Thankfully, it was a closed fracture, meaning there was no open wound, giving him a much better chance of recovery.
After surgery to stabilise the break, Bear Grills came into care for rehabilitation. He’s been receiving a full suite of treatments including massage therapy (especially around scar tissue), passive and active range-of-motion exercises, and therapeutic laser therapy. He’s even on a special mineral-rich paste to help boost his bone healing!
We’re thrilled that Bear Grills is now a candidate for our Foster a Koala program. By becoming a foster supporter, you’ll help cover the ongoing care that gives koalas like Bear Grills a second chance in the wild.
