This month, we’re sharing Axl’s story—a young koala found in a moment of need by a caring family from Belgium during their visit to Magnetic Island. While exploring the Forts Walk, they spotted him dangling from a tree, barely holding on over a steep bank. Little Axl weighed just 890 grams, and his mother was nowhere in sight.
Thanks to the efforts of the Belgian family and local rescuer Tim Bee, Axl was safely brought down and transported to the Magnetic Island Koala Hospital. Shivering and hungry, he arrived in need of immediate care. Under the attentive watch of Dr. Ali Bee and her team, he began to thrive. Inspired by his impressive vocal strength, he was named Axl, a fitting tribute to his resilient spirit.
Throughout their stay, the Belgian family checked in regularly, eager to hear about Axl’s progress. Their compassion made all the difference, and we’re so grateful for their kindness and commitment.
Today, Axl is on a steady path to recovery, enjoying a nutritious diet and the support he needs to grow stronger. With a little more time and care, we hope he’ll soon be ready to return to a safe, suitable habitat.
By fostering a koala this November, you can help provide essential resources like food, medicine, and ongoing monitoring for Axl and other koalas in need. Every contribution brings these precious animals one step closer to a full, healthy life back in the wild.
To the Belgian family: we send our heartfelt thanks, wherever you are, for making such a difference. And to everyone who fosters a koala this month—thank you for being a part of their journey to recovery and freedom.
