A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY AT LAGUNA PEST CONTROL!

If you think that $2 wouldn’t make a difference to conservation outcomes, take a tip from the crew at Laguna Pest Control.  A $2 donation for every job undertaken since February 2019, made a combined total of $3220 donated last year to locally based charity, Queensland Koala Crusaders (QKC).

How does a company which essentially provides a service for controlling critters partner up with an organisation committed to protecting wildlife? Jay and Nicky Turner support a variety of different charities but it’s their ongoing contribution to QKC that aligns with their interest in the local ecology. As an entomologist and former wildlife worker, Jay has a passion for all creatures, cuddly and even the not so cuddly! He also believes in striking a balance and uses his knowledge to help develop treatment plans which can be targeted to a particular pests biology, reducing the impact on non-target organisms.

QKC Grants Officer, Jodie Sargeant, responded to the initiative by saying “While ultimately working towards securing land for a sanctuary and education facility, donations such as this mean we spend less volunteer hours raising funds and more on what makes an immediate difference for local flora and fauna. Our team members are all volunteers so funds go directly to grassroots projects. We also partner with other agencies and support rescue, revegetation and critical care work following mass wildlife trauma emergencies such as bushfires and drought” she explained.
